Mombasa, Kenya


Giant sculpted elephant tusks span the entry to the island where Mombasa perches, a symbol of how wildlife is revered in Kenya. Indigenous wildlife can be seen in Haller Park, Mombasa's largest animal sanctuary. Don't miss monumental Fort Jesus, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, or the Old Town, which is decidedly Arabic.
