DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship, you will transfer to the Denpasar Airport and fly to Yogyakarta City in Java. Upon arrival, you will check into the Hotel Tentrem (or a similar hotel), where you will enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening.

DAY 2

Setting out well before sunrise, drive to the stunning temple complex at Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist monument. This UNESCO World Heritage site consists of six square terraces topped by three circular ones. Built with more than 2 million stone blocks and adorned with thousands of relief panels and hundreds of Buddha statues, it is exquisite beyond comparison.

Ample time will be dedicated to exploring this incredible Buddhist structure before visiting a Kris maker. Listed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage of Humanity, the Kris is an asymmetrical dagger with distinctive blade patterning achieved through alternating laminations of iron. It can take a month to forge a single piece.

Kris have been produced in Indonesia for centuries, but nowhere is the art so embedded in the culture as in Central Java. Kris are used for display, weapons, as talismans with magical powers, accessories for ceremonial dress, indicators of social status and symbols of heroism. Kris-makers do more than forge the weapon, they ritualistically infuse the blade with mystical powers. Consequently, Kris are considered almost alive because they may be vessels of spirits, either good or evil.

After visiting the Kris-Maker, you can relax at the hotel before checking out. You will then board a train at the Yogyakarta station. Dinner will be served during the train ride to Surabaya.

Upon arrival in Surabaya, you will then be transferred directly to the Hotel Majapahit Surabaya (or a similar hotel) for the evening.

DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel and check-out, you will begin an enlightening driving tour of Surabaya. While passing the Pasar Pabean market in Old Town, you will surely notice that the merchandise isn’t just Javanese. Many of the vendors are from China, India and Malaysia and their goods appeal to those audiences.

In time, you will pause at Arabic Square, which contains the tomb of Sunan Ampel, the Wali Sanga saint that brought Islam to Indonesia in the 15th century. Arabic Square is now a center for Islamic study and a vibrant for Muslims. While walking about the square, you will pass through the pilgrim’s market and see the centuries-old Ampel mosque.

Afterwards, you will proceed to the port and re-embark the cruise ship.

Brief Program Description:

While based in Nepal’s royal capital of Kathmandu, you will thoroughly explore one breathtaking attraction after another and come away with a deeper understanding of Nepalese life. Many of the landmarks are UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Hindu temple Pashupatinath on the sacred Bagmati River, the dozens of temples within Durbar Square and Bhadgaon, the former capital of Nepal, which is revered for its medieval architecture. You will also enjoy a rare audience with a kumari living goddess and fly high over the snow-capped Himalayas.

DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship in Colombo and completing immigration and customs formalities, you will transfer to the airport for the Sri Lankan flight to Delhi. Lunch will be arranged at the Colombo airport.

Upon landing in Delhi, completing immigration and customs formalities and collecting your baggage, you will transfer to J.W Marriott New Delhi Aerocity to spend the evening.

DAY 2

After checking out of the hotel, you will transfer to the airport for the IndiGo Airlines flight to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Upon landing, you will be assisted with visa issuance and baggage collection.

You will then transfer to The Dwarika’s Hotel. Described as a “living, breathing museum, displaying Nepal’s best craftsmanship from the 13th century,” the hotel reflects medieval architectural traditions. Every brick is handmade, every piece of wood original and centuries old.

Following lunch and leisure time at the hotel, you will transfer to the nearby Boudhnath Stupa, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Constructed in the 14th century, the stupa is built on an octagonal base and inset with prayer wheels. Boudhnath is also a center of the Tibetan community in Nepal, where you will visit a monastery.

Before returning to the hotel for the evening, you will enjoy a cup of coffee or a cocktail at one of the cafés in Boudhnath.

DAY 3

Early in the morning, you will transfer to the airport for a flightseeing excursion, soaring over glacier-clad, cloud-shrouded peaks and other Himalayan landscapes around Mount Everest. Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for breakfast.

Following breakfast, you will visit Patan, one of three royal cities in the valley. Commissioned by India’s great emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century, this UNESCO World Heritage site within four stupas is known as the City of Fine Arts.

The temples around the main square are impressive as is the Patan Museum, which is housed within a picturesque palace setting. In an international campaign by UNESCO for safeguarding monuments in Kathmandu Valley, the Austrian government joined hands with Nepal to restore and preserve Patan.

You will see Patan’s Living Goddess, who typically acknowledges greetings of devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. Known as kumaris, living goddesses live in seclusion and rarely speak in public.

After a private audience with the Goddess, you will enjoy lunch at The Lawn.

You will then return to the hotel for some free time.

In the evening, you visit Pashupatinath temple, a nearby UNESCO World Heritage site, and witness the Aarti ceremony, a daily prayer ritual. Pashupatinath is one of the holiest Hindu temples and a major pilgrimage place dedicated to the god Shiva. Situated amidst a natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple built in pagoda style has a gilded roof and richly carved silver doors. Visitors may view it from the east bank as only Hindus are permitted to enter.

Dinner will be served at The Dwarika’s restaurant Krishnarpan, which specializes in fine Newari cuisine. The interiors and experience symbolize traditional banquets favored by Nepali kings and royalty in honor of visiting dignitaries.

DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bhadgaon, also known as Bhaktapur or the City of Devotees. Founded in the 9th century, Bhaktapur is revered for its medieval art and architecture.

As you meander around Durbar Square, you will see the 55 Window Palace and Nyatapola temple, considered to be the finest example of Pagoda-style architecture.

Newari-style architecture blossomed in the form of temples, palaces, residences and squares between the 12th and 18th centuries, representing a timelessness in Nepalese architecture and its definitive characteristics, often guided by religious and socio-cultural norms.

Visit 150-year-old restored Newari home. Its ground level is for daily activities and storage, while the floors above contain living spaces and bedrooms. The top floor serves as the family shrine and cooking and dining area.

Afterwards, you will return to The Dwarika’s Hotel for lunch and leisure time.

Later in the afternoon, you will transfer to Durbar Square, also known as the Hanuman Dhoka Palace Square after the Hindu monkey god Hanuman, who acts as a protector via a huge stone impression next to the main entrance. Kathmandu Valley has three Durbar Squares, all UNESCO World Heritage sites.

This ancient seat of Nepalese royalty displays spectacular architecture, reflecting the skill of the Newari artists over several centuries. There is a great variety of temples dedicated to different Hindu gods and goddesses, mainly constructed between the 15th and 18th centuries.

Time has been allotted for individual exploration at Asan Bazar, a great local shopping scene. You will then board a rickshaw and ride through the narrow lanes of the old city to Thamel, a hip hub for international trekkers, mountaineers and shoppers. Cocktails and dinner will be served at the famed One Tree Sam’s Bar.

You will then return to the hotel for the evening.

Electricity:

Nepal has a 230-volt, 50-hertz cycle power supply and 2-pin cylindrical sockets and plugs. The power supply is not continuous and the power-cut schedule is published for each area. However, most hotels, guesthouses, and facili¬ties have power backup so their service is not interrupted. If you are bringing electronic devices, we recommend bringing your own travel adaptors.

Expected Weather:

May is pre-monsoon with temperatures ranging from 28°C (82.4°F) in the day and 22°C (72°F) at night.

What to Bring:

Nepal has a range of climates, so it is best to pack so that you are prepared for adventures in alpine climates and sub-tropical humid regions. Mornings are cool. Light cottons would be appropriate during the day as the temperature rises.

DAY 1

Depart the ship in Cairns and meet our local representative and begin your adventure northwards to the world-famous Daintree Rainforest. Driving along the magnificent coastline stop for a refreshment in the northern beaches and then continue up the coast and into the middle of the rainforest and your accommodation at Silky Oaks Lodge. Set above the flowing Mossman River and among the canopy of the rainforest, you will surely feel enveloped by the sights and sounds of the natural theatre surrounding you.

Check in time at the lodge is at 3:00pm so you’ll have a chance to eat lunch overlooking the lush rainforest before checking in. You will also be free to explore the property. Self-guided walking maps will be provided on arrival allowing you the opportunity to explore some of the surrounding rainforest walks accessible only to inhouse guests.

On check in, your preferred dining time can be established, and a booking will be made in the property’s magnificent restaurant. Dinner and evening drinks are included during your stay.

Your Treehouse room is set high above the banks of the Mossman River and has a king bed, open plan lounge, spacious ensuite bathroom with shower, private outdoor deck with bath and shower, outdoor balcony with hammock, floor to ceiling glass windows and rainforest views.

DAY 2

After a wonderful tropical breakfast overlooking the river and canopy, meet your guide for this morning’s adventure.

A short but scenic drive through sugarcane farms takes you to the neighboring town of Mossman, the home of Mossman Gorge and some of the traditional owners of this land.

Meet a representative from the cultural center and embark on a journey of walking and storytelling to showcase the natural beauty of the rainforest as well as the dream time stories and cultural insight into the region.

Following this magical experience return to your retreat and relax over lunch. The afternoon is at your leisure to take advantage the peaceful scenery or partake in one of the activities offered at the lodge.

Silky Oaks Lodge offers a range of complimentary lodge-based activities including guided yoga classes, self-guided walks and swimming in the Mossman River. Snorkels and fins, as well as river canoes and kayaks and electronic bikes are provided for guest use. The lodge also offers a daily set-schedule shuttle transfer to port Douglas. Note, some activities are shared with fellow guests and operate at scheduled times.

DAY 3

After breakfast, meet your guide in the lobby and set out to explore the Great Barrier Reef in style.

Transfer to the town of Port Douglas where you will embark on an exclusive vessel just for our group. You will spend the day on the water with the opportunity to snorkel at the pristine Great Barrier Reef.

Lunch, snorkel gear, snacks and Lycra suits are all provided on the vessel along with a chilled box with some basic beverages to enjoy during the day.

Returning to the lodge, dinner and drinks are again enjoyed overlooking the rainforest.

Note: Guests should bring a towel. Scuba Diving is not available.

DAY 4

Depending on flight time, enjoy breakfast or a breakfast box will be provided. Depart on a coastal drive to the Cairns Airport where you will board a flight to Darwin.

Upon arrival in Darwin the group will be met after baggage claim and transferred to the port where you will re-embark the ship.

Part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area, the Daintree climate is characterized by two distinct seasons: the dry season and the green season. The dry season occurs from April to November which sees warm days and cool nights with low humidity ranging in temperature from 19-30°C (66-86°F ).

What to Bring:

Dress is relaxed at Silky Oaks Lodge. Easy to wear, resort style clothing for daytime and smart casual attire for evening is recommended. Comfortable, solid footwear for rainforest walks is essential as is a hat and sunscreen. Also bring a bathing suit, your own snorkel gear if you do not wish to use what is provided on the reef tour, camera, underwear camera, and chargers.

Local Currency:

Australian Dollars. The U.S. dollar is not accepted. However, all major credit cards can be used.

Electricity:

Voltage in Australia is 230V 50Hz. The plugs in Australia have two flat metal pins shaped live a ‘V’ and some may contain a third flat pin in the center. We recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor for electric devices.

Luggage information:

For the flight between Cairns and Darwin, standard luggage allowance is one piece of luggage weighing no more than 23kg / 50 lbs per bag. Guests can also bring one personal item and one standard carry on size piece that can fit in the overhead bin or under the seat (maximum 7 kg / 15 lbs). Anything additional to this will be payable by guests at the time of check in for the flight to Darwin.

Behold the glorious Taj Mahal at sunrise and sunset when it appears to change colors as the varying natural light reflects off its white marble. The tomb is the most famous example of the Mughal architecture that flourished in India during the 16th through 18th centuries, but you will also see the stunning red sandstone Agra Fort, a Mughal masterpiece as well. You can choose your own adventure another day: visit the first Mughal tomb with marble inlay, go on a shopping spree or consult with a leading astrologer.

DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will settle in for a scenic drive to Agra via the new Yamuna Expressway.

Upon arriving in Agra, you will enjoy lunch and check into The Oberoi Amarvilas, an elegant hotel with uninterrupted views of the Taj Mahal. The hotel’s classical architecture is complemented by elaborate Mughal gardens, terraced lawns, fountains, reflection pools and pavilions. Every room has a frontal view of the Taj Mahal.

In the afternoon, you will visit Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site that visionary Emperor Akbar had renovated in the mid-1500s. Astonishing palaces, mosques and audience halls embellished with Hindu and Islamic designs are contained within the fort’s massive walls of red sandstone.

Later, you will visit the Taj Mahal, which some consider to be the world’s most perfect architectural monument. Amazingly graceful from any angle, the Taj Mahal is especially astounding up close. At dusk the monument appears to change its hue, tinted by the glow of the setting sun.

Back at the hotel, you will enjoy a cultural show featuring the classical dance form of kathak. This royal courtroom dance arose from the fusion of Hindu and Muslim cultures during the Mughal era. It is characterized by rhythmic footwork, spectacular spins, mime and gestures that are a dramatic representation of themes from Persian poetry synthesized with Hindu mythology.

Following the performance, you will enjoy dinner at the hotel, where you will spend the evening.

DAY 3

In the early morning, you will be served coffee, tea, juices and bread rolls in the lobby prior departing for the Taj Mahal. You will arrive at sunrise as the first rays of sunlight are cast upon the pearl-white tomb.

After returning to the hotel for a full breakfast, you will have three options for your day’s adventure:

• Visit the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah in the old city, the first Mughal structure to extensively use pietra

dura, the marble inlay work that is so characteristic of the Taj Mahal. This mausoleum is small and squat when compared to the Taj Mahal, but the more human scale has its own attraction and the skillfully patterned surface of the tomb is exquisite.

• Consult with one of Agra’s leading astrologers at the hotel. Appointments for an analysis of your personal horoscope can be made at the Oceania Cruises Hospitality desk as you arrive at the hotel.

Visit two cave complexes so historically and culturally important that UNESCO declared them World Heritage sites. The Ajanta Caves date to the 2nd century B.C. but were forgotten for a millennium. Inside, you will behold masterpieces of Buddhist religious art. The dozens of Ellora Caves were dug side by side in a volcanically formed cliff. They reflect ancient India’s religious tolerance as their stone sanctuaries are devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. Elsewhere, you will explore a mausoleum that resembles a black Taj Mahal and watch himroo cloth being woven.

DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship in Cochin and completing immigration and customs formalities, you will transfer to the airport for the flight to Aurangabad via Mumbai. A box lunch will be served at the Mumbai airport.

Upon landing in Aurangabad, you will transfer to the Taj Vivanta hotel, where you will enjoy dinner and spend a relaxing evening.

DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive into the countryside towards the Ajanta Caves. In the early 19th century, a group of British officers traversing the Sahyadri hills accidentally came upon these caves, which were buried under debris and screened by foliage.

The first of these caves was hollowed out from a cliff in the 2nd century B.C. Strung out in a sweeping horseshoe-shape in an inner fold of the hills, the caves were a secluded retreat for Buddhist monastic orders and yet offered easy access to the trade routes that swung past here to the coast. With little more than a hammer and chisel, the monks excavated chaityas, chapels and monasteries where they lived and taught and performed rituals. The 30 caves of Ajanta, some unfinished, span a period of 800 years and contain numerous images of Buddha.

After exploring the caves and enjoying a packed lunch prepared by the Taj Vivanta, you will return to the hotel. Following dinner at the hotel, you will spend the evening.

DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive north into the hills where you will find the Ellora Caves. They consist of 34 Hindu, Jain and Buddhist caves carved out of the volcanic lava in the Deccan Traps plateau.

Although the caves lie near an important ancient trade route between Ujjain and the west coast, they were abandoned and forgotten. More than 2000 years old, the Ellora Caves have been compared to the Egyptian pyramids for their amazing construction, sculptures and frescoes.

The most marvelous of all is the stupendous rock temple of Kailash, the world’s largest monolithic sculpture, which 7,000 laborers sculpted out of solid rock over a 150-year period.

After exploring the caves, you will return to the hotel for lunch and a bit of free time.

A tour of Aurangabad follows, during which you will see Bibi-ka-Maqbara, known as the Black Taj. Built of black marble, this legendary mausoleum was supposedly planned to be built opposite the Taj Mahal in Agra.

You will also visit a workshop whose artisans weave himroo, a silk and cotton fabric used for shawls, sarees and textiles. Himroo was originally woven for ancient royal families and has become a specialty of Aurangabad.

After returning to the hotel for dinner, you will spend one last night at the Taj Vivanta.

Stand atop the rim of Grabrok Crater and behold the lava fields that a past eruption left in its wake. View one roaring waterfall after another, ranging from remote Dynjandi – the largest cascade in the Westfjords – to Glanni, a petite waterfall where elves and trolls supposedly live. Still, the ultimate experience is riding in a monster snow truck through the manmade ice tunnel that cuts through Langjökull Glacier.

DAY 1

After departing from the pier in Ísafjörður, you will take a leisurely drive through town, the largest settlement in the Westfjords. Although Ísafjörður is wonderfully historical and holds the area’s oldest house, the surrounding natural beauty is the real draw.

It won’t be long until you see one of the highlight s— Dynjandi, an absolutely gorgeous cascade that you will reach by following a picturesque natural trail. The waterfall’s name means “thunderous,” a fitting title as the water roars down more than 300 feet.

Lunch at the small, family-owned Hotel Flókalunduris follows, after which you will enjoy a somewhat easy hike to Grabrok Crater. A volcanic eruption about 3,000 years ago formed the crater and a nearby lake. The panoramic views from the rim of the crater are particularly memorable.

Yet another cascade awaits you along the Norðurá River, where you will enjoy a spectacular view of Glannis Waterfall. Although the waterfall is comparatively small, it is absolutely beautiful and features multiple tiers. The waterfall is said to be the dwelling place of elves and trolls.

A delightful evening will be spent at the Hotel Húsafell, which sits in the midst of a lava and glacier-dotted landscape. A dinner reservation has been made for you at the hotel restaurant if you wish to dine there on your own.

Day 2

After breakfast and check out from the hotel, you will head to Langjökull Glacier, the second-largest mass of ice in Iceland. There, you will board an 8x8 monster truck designed to drive across snowy and icy terrain. In time, you will pause to walk through a manmade ice cave carved into the heart of the glacier. As you proceed through the tunnels of ice, you will enjoy an up-close view of the blue hues and density of the ice.

Following lunch at the charming Brúarás Restaurant in Husafell, you will visit two more spectacular waterfalls – Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Both lie in a natural wonderland characterized by dense woods, lava formations, ancient glaciers and clear mountains springs.

Hraunfossar is also known as the Lava Falls because the water appears to seep right out of the hardened lava cliffs. Barnafoss flows more rapidly, a natural occurrence that spawned a folktale with a tragic end. Be sure to ask the guide about it.

After viewing these natural wonders, you will drive to Reykjavík and re-board the cruise ship.

Egypt’s electrical system operates on 220/230 volts (A/C 50 cycles). Most hotels provide hair dryers and plug adapters in the rooms. If you plan to bring personal electrical appliances, carry an international converter kit with a set of adapter plugs.

Note: Outlets in Egypt require a two-pronged adapter plug with round pins.

Expected Weather: During your journey, you can expect warm to hot conditions typical of Egypt in May. In Cairo, daytime temperatures generally range from 36°C to 39°C (97°F to 102°F), while nighttime temperatures drop to around 20°C to 22°C (68°F to 72°F), offering some relief from the heat.

In Luxor, the climate is even warmer, with daytime highs averaging 35°C to 38°C (95°F to 100°F) and nighttime temperatures hovering between 21°C and 23°C (70°F to 73°F). The air is dry, and the sun is intense, so adequate sun protection and hydration are essential throughout your stay.

What to Bring: it is essential to pack light, breathable clothing such as cotton or linen to stay comfortable in the heat. Loose-fitting long sleeves and pants are recommended for sun protection and modesty when visiting religious sites. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen will help shield you from the intense sun, while good walking shoes are a must for exploring archaeological sites. Currency: The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), but USD and major credit cards are widely accepted.

DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship, you will begin a panoramic drive through Mumbai, passing landmarks such as the Gateway of India arch monument, Bombay University and an ornate museum formerly named for the Prince of Wales. Upon reaching the Churchgate railway station, you will watch the dabbawallahs busily sorting countless tiffin lunch boxes for delivery to Mumbai’s work force.

After a photo stop at Victoria Railway Station, you will continue on into the northern sections of Mumbai to see a Dhobi Ghat open-air laundry. You will pass the stylish Art Deco buildings along Marine Drive before pausing for lunch at Trishna, a restaurant in the Kala Ghoda art and heritage district. The menu features seafood dishes prepared from authentic recipes from the west coast of India.

You will then visit the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, which one of the grandsons of influential Mumbai banker David Sassoon built. The synagogue with its white wooden staircase, decorative floor tiles and fine stain-glass is patronized by both the Baghdadi and Bene Israel communities, some of whom you will meet.

Afterwards, you will check into The Oberoi hotel and enjoy free time to relax and freshen up. The evening’s activities will include a folk dance performance in the banquet room, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a sit-down dinner.

DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship in Montevideo, you will transfer to the ferry terminal and take the ferry to Buenos Aires. Lunch will be served on the ferry or at the airport in Buenos Aires before you fly to Iguazú Falls.

Once you land, you will transfer to the Hotel Das Cataratas in the Brazilian National Park, where you will enjoy dinner and overnight.

DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to the Iguazú National Park. The name Iguazú means “Great Waters” in the language of the indigenous Guarani people. That description couldn’t be more accurate.

Iguazú Falls is an monumental natural wonder that is taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide. It consists of 275 waterfalls that form a massive and magnificent cascade that stretches for nearly 1.7 miles. Its waters thunder through a jungle of sub-tropical greenery on the border between Argentina and Brazil.

As you travel on foot along the lower-circuit catwalks on the Argentinian side of the falls, you will enjoy a unique perspective of Iguazú. You will be close enough to feel the spray and energy that this enormous wall of falling water creates.

Following a buffet lunch within the national park, you will ride the open-air Iguazú ecological train to Devil’s Throat, where the waterfall really flaunts its unbridled power. There, the water crashes down into a milky abyss, creating rainbow after rainbow.

After this extraordinary experience, you will return to the hotel for dinner and to spend the evening.

DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will tour the Brazilian side of the national park. A box lunch will be served as you transfer to the airport for the return flight to Buenos Aires. Upon landing, you will transfer to the pier to re-embark the cruise ship.

Explore Machu Picchu – the Lost City of the Incas – much of which still remains a mystery even though it was discovered largely intact more than a century ago. This archaeological complex has been thoroughly excavated to reveal the wonders of the Inca Empire at its height. The setting high above sea level in a tropical mountain forest is equally dramatic. You will also browse magnificent Inca landmarks in Cusco, the capital of the ancient Inca Empire, that were built to exacting standards yet without mortar.

Special Note: As this is an active program that takes place at high altitudes, we strongly recommend that all guests consult with their physician regarding their ability to participate prior to signing up. Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour. DAY 1

Following disembarkation from the ship in Pisco, you will transfer to the Lima Airport for your flight to Cusco. Before boarding, you will enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Lima.

After flying into Cusco, you will transfer to the JW Marriott Hotel in Cusco or a similar hotel in Cusco for dinner and to overnight. All of the rooms at the JW Marriott have an oxygen-enriched system to help you acclimate to the altitude. This upgrade service has been included in this package.

DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to the train station and board the Vistadome train for Aguas Calientes. Upon arriving there, you will drive to the ruins of Machu Picchu to explore this Lost City of the Incas. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Constructed as a royal retreat for the Inca emperor Pachacuti in the 1400s, Machu Picchu was abandoned less than 100 years later, its population probably devastated by smallpox. Because Spanish conquistadors never found this hidden city, it was largely intact when explorer Hiram Bingham discovered it in 1911.

Architectural highlights include the Temple of the Sun, designed much like the one in Cusco, several other temples, hundreds of terraces and a mysterious carved stone situated on a raised platform that towers above the plaza. The stone may have been used for astronomical observations, but no one knows for certain.

The Inca had no written language, so there is no record of Machu Picchu’s ultimate purpose. Scholars are still striving to uncover clues as to its mysteries.

After visiting Machu Picchu, you will re-board the Vistadome train and journey back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arriving to the train station, you will transfer back to your hotel in Cusco for dinner and to overnight.

DAY 3

After enjoying breakfast, check out and transfer to the sacred site of Koricancha, a Dominican Convent of Santo Domingo that was built on the foundations of the Temple of the Sun, the most sumptuous temple in the Inca Empire. The curved, mortar-less masonry wall at the west end of the church is considered to be one of the greatest existing examples of Inca stonework.

Then, you will see Sacsayhuaman fortress. Strategically located on a hill overlooking the city, the fortress was constructed without mortar like many other Inca structures. Yet the enormous stones, weighing as much as 200 tons, fit so tightly that not even a thin blade of grass can slide between them. The craftsmanship is a stunning example of the Incas’ sophisticated construction techniques and architectural skills.

After this visit, you will transfer to the airport for the flights to Lima and on to Trujillo, where you will re-board the ship. Box lunch included in Lima.

January / February is normally rainy in the highlands. Average temperature in the highlands is 65ºF max /43ºF min while in Lima it is 80ºF max/68ºF min.

November through April is considered the rainy season in the highlands so be prepared for various weather conditions, which often change suddenly because of the high altitude. Dressing in layers with rain gear is recommended.

What to Bring

• Light luggage (carry-on) is recommended for this short overland trip

• Comfortable, casual clothing in natural breathable fabrics. Temperatures will change as altitudes and the time of day change, so it’s best to bring shorts as well as long trousers and clothing that can be layered. Cathedrals, churches, and other religious sites require conservative dress. Both males and females should cover their arms, legs and shoulders.

• Local standards dictate a neat, clean outfit for dining in restaurants and touring urban areas. For men: long trousers and a shirt with a collar. For ladies: trousers or a knee-length or longer skirt with a modest top. Formal clothing is not necessary.

After a hearty lunch at a restaurant set in the park’s breathtaking surroundings, you will visit the dramatic Salto Grande waterfall. You will then return to Puerto Natales to spend one last night.

DAY 1

Upon disembarking the ship in Safaga, you will meet the guide and depart for the 3.5-hour drive to Luxor.

Upon arrival, you will enjoy lunch and then visit the Karnak temple. Located about two miles north of the Luxor Temple but connected to it by an impressive avenue of sphinxes, Karnak Temple was the most important sanctuary of ancient Egypt and the heart of the cult of the god Amon. Each pharaoh added his own contribution to the temple over the ensuing 2,000 years.

The Ptolemies erected the massive first pylon you will see. Past the second pylon, which is guarded by a pair of huge statues of Ramses II, you will find the great hypo-style hall, the largest hall of any temple in the world. It spans 50,000 square feet and contains 134 enormous columns. You may notice that some of the columns still have traces of the brilliant paint that originally covered them. The third pylon leads to the centre court and past the fourth pylon is the 97-foot-high obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut, carved from a solid piece of pink granite.

As you pass through successive pylons and courts, you will journey back in time until you reach the oldest part of the temple, built by the pharaohs of the middle kingdom around 2000 B.C. At the south end of the temple, you will find the sacred lake where ceremonial boats took part in the worship of Amon.

Cameras and video cameras are permitted inside the Karnak Temple free of charge.

Following the tour of Karnak Temple, you will visit Luxor Temple, which was originally built during the reign of Amenophis the III and then expanded by Ramses II, who added a statue of himself and two obelisks.

Today, only one of the statues remains at the Luxor Temple; Mohamed Ali gave the other one to Louis Philippe in 1831 and it is displayed at the Concorde in Paris. After Alexander the Great rebuilt the sanctuary in the 4th century B.C., the Romans rebuilt portions of it and then the Muslims built a mosque in the temple.

Cameras and video cameras are permitted inside Luxor Temple.

Continuing on, you will transfer to your hotel for check in and then depart for the Luxor Museum. This marvelous museum overlooks the west bank of the Nile River and has an amazing collection of ancient artifacts. Displays range from magnificent pharaonic art to items used in everyday life, such as pottery and jewelry, including a carefully selected assortment of items from the Theban temples and necropolis.

Back at your hotel, you will enjoy a buffet dinner before retiring for the evening.

DAY 2

Following a buffet breakfast, you will cross over the Nile to the West Bank to visit the Valley of the Kings, hidden in the foothills of the Gourma Mountains. More than 60 tombs of pharaohs and noblemen have been excavated in this valley. The kings’ formal names and titles are inscribed in their tombs, along with their images and statues. Between the 18th and 20th dynasties, the kings abandoned the Memphis area and built their tombs in Thebes.

Enjoy a special visit to the Seti I Tomb, the longest and one of the most beautiful tombs in the valley. It is still recognized as an elaborately decorated monument from the times of Seti I and his son, Ramesses II. The most fascinating aspects of the tomb are the well-crafted decorations that brought antiquity to vivid life.

Next you will visit King Tutankhamun's tomb where his mummy still rests. If time permits, you may look into one or two other tombs in the area.

Continuing on, you will enjoy a photo stop at the Hatshepsut Temple, whose unique design features a series of grand terraces extending up a cliff with rows of square granite columns blending in with the mountainside.

From there, you will proceed to Valley of the Queens, where you will visit Queen Nefertari’s Tomb, which is known for its lavish decoration and colors. It is one of the largest and most spectacular in the Valley of the Queens. Nefertari Meritmut was an Egyptian queen and the first of the Great Royal Wives of Ramesses the Great.

NOTE: There are steps (up to 20 per chamber) to go down into the various tombs and the ground surrounding the tombs is uneven and dusty. It is also extremely hot. Cameras and video cameras may be used during your visit, but are not permitted inside the tombs.

Next, a photo stop will be made at the Colossi of Memnon. This structure was originally built as a mortuary temple in Thebes and guarded by two gigantic statues on the outer gates. All that remains today are the 75-foot-high, 1,000-ton statues of Amenhotep III. Though damaged by nature, the statues are impressive nonetheless. Cameras and video cameras are permitted free of charge.

You will next embark on a traditional wooden Dahabeya boat for a lunch cruise along the Nile.

Once you return to the hotel, you will check-out and depart for the 3.5-hour drive back to Safaga. Upon arrival, you will proceed directly to the pier and re-embark the ship.

DAY 1

Upon disembarking the ship in Safaga, you will be met by your guide and depart for the 3.5-hour escorted drive to Luxor. Restrooms are available on the coach, therefore no stops are planned along the way.

Upon arrival in Luxor, you will enjoy lunch before crossing the Nile River by motor boat that is covered but open on the sides. There are a few steps down to the reach the boat.

You will then proceed to the Valley of the Kings in the West Bank, where you will find the remarkable tombs of Egypt’s ancient kings, their families and other Egyptian nobility. Ample time is allotted for you to fully explore the area and enter three tombs of your choice. There are numerous steps to enter the tombs and the ground is uneven.

You will next stop for photos at Hatshepsut Temple, a mortuary temple built by Hatshepsut, the only woman to rule as a pharaoh. Built into the mountainside, it stands as an incredible monument to the powers held by the pharaohs.

A second photo stop will follow at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues that originally flanked the entrance to Amenhotep III's mortuary temple. Although the temple was destroyed in an earthquake and most of its remnants have long since disappeared, these magnificent statues still stand guard, albeit over an open field.

You will then visit Luxor Temple. This renowned ancient structure was originally built during the reign of Amenophis the III and then expanded by Ramses II, who added a statue of himself and two obelisks. Only one obelisk remains at the temple; the other one was given by Mohamed Ali to Louis Philippe in 1831 and is displayed at the Concorde in Paris to this day.

After Alexander the Great rebuilt the sanctuary in the 4th century B.C., the Romans rebuilt portions of it and the Muslims then built a mosque in the temple. Cameras and video cameras are permitted inside Luxor Temple. The ground is uneven here.

Following your visit to Luxor Temple, you will transfer to your hotel for check-in. You will enjoy a relaxed buffet dinner at the hotel before retiring for the evening.

DAY 2

After an early wake-up call, breakfast boxes will be distributed by the hotel before you transfer to the Luxor Airport for a one-hour flight to Cairo.

Upon arrival in Cairo, you will enjoy a buffet breakfast at a deluxe hotel before starting the day’s tour.

Your first visit will be the Egyptian Museum. Opened in 1902, the museum has more than 100 halls displaying the world’s largest and richest collection of Egyptian antiquities, including statues, mummies and the priceless treasures of King Tutankhamen. There are steps in the museum.

After your museum visit, you will visit the only remaining wonders of the Ancient World: the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx.

The Giza plateau consists of three major pyramids or tombs built by the pharaohs Cheops, his son Chephren and Chephern's son Mykerinus, where their mummified bodies would rest for eternity.

The Great Sphinx is in front of the pyramids of Chephren as the guardian of this ancient mortuary complex. This monumental statue with the body of a lion and head of a human was carved from a single piece of Giza plateau bedrock and is considered a national symbol of ancient and modern Egypt.

At each site you will have ample time to walk around and take photos, although no inside visits are permitted. Be aware of the vendors selling merchandise and camel rides, which you should do only at your own risk.

Lunch will be offered in a deluxe restaurant before driving back to Cairo Airport for the flight to Hurghada. Upon landing, you will be met and transferred to Safaga to re-board the ship.

Behold the most revealing landmarks around Cairo and come away with a greater understanding of Egypt’s storied past. Few experiences are quite so mesmerizing as standing before the Great Pyramid of Giza – the sole remaining Wonder of the Ancient World – and the colossal Sphinx in its shadow. A look at the Citadel fortress and a 14th-century bazaar add more intrigue, while the treasures of King Tut are showcased within the Grand Egyptian Museum. The deeper you delve into Egypt’s history, the more captivating it becomes.

DAY 1

Upon disembarking the ship in Safaga, you will be met and transferred to the Hurghada airport for the flight to Cairo. A box lunch from the ship or a snack at the airport (TBA) will be provided.

Upon landing in Cairo, you will visit a medieval Islamic fortress known simply as The Citadel and the adjacent Mosque of Muhammad Ali, which is often called the Alabaster Mosque due to the extensive use of that stone throughout the building. The mosque is the largest such structure built in Cairo during the first half of the 19th century and looks impressive even from a distance.

Later in the afternoon, you will browse Khan El-Khalili, an open-air bazaar established in the 14th century. As you meander through the market’s labyrinthine alleyways, you will find everything from handcrafted jewelry to carpets and clothing. The atmosphere is wonderfully vibrant and the aroma of fresh-ground spices wafting through the air only adds to the ambiance.

Afterwards, you will transfer to the Four Seasons First Residence for check-in. Dinner will be served at the hotel, but the remainder of the day will be at your leisure.

DAY 2

Following an early-morning breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will drive to the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, which overlooks Djoser’s mortuary complex. Dating from 2700 BC, the Step Pyramid is the oldest stone structure in the world and was designed by Imhotep for King Djoser. The complex also contains 16 other pyramids in various stages of preservation.

Because the necropolis complex was buried beneath the sands for much of the past two millennia, even the sizable mortuary surrounding Djoser’s pyramid was not unearthed until 1924. As a result, many of the mastaba tombs have been superbly preserved with both their structures and lavish interior decorations intact.

You will then travel to the legendary Great Pyramid of Giza, the sole remaining Wonder of the Ancient World. Built as a royal tomb for Cheops, it is the largest of a group of three pyramids. The other two pyramids were constructed to hold the mummified remains of the pharaoh’s son and successor Chephren and Chephren’s son, Mykerinus.

Southeast of the Great Pyramid stands the Sphinx, the monument of a mythical creature with the head of a man and the body of a lion. It was carved out of solid limestone around 2650 BC and faces east, probably to greet the rising sun and the return of life each day.

Following lunch at a nearby restaurant, you will visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest archaeological museum. Of all its priceless artifacts, the items from King Tutankhamen’s tomb is the highlight, as the full collection has never been displayed in one place before.

After this enlightening experience, you will transfer to the Cairo airport for the return flight to Hurghada. Upon arriving, you will continue on to the pier and re-board the cruise ship.

Enjoy the definitive deep dive into the architectural wonders of the ancient Khmer empire, the highlight being Angkor Wat, a Buddhist complex that is among the world’s largest religious monuments. Besides exploring the extraordinary temple ruins during the day, you will watch a traditional folkloric performance there in the evening. Another night will be spent cruising the moat that surrounds the walled city of Angkor in a covered gondola. You will also thoroughly explore Angkor Thom, a temple complex from the 12th century that was once the empire’s capital.

DAY 1

After disembarking the ship in Singapore, you will meet an Akorn representative at the gangway and board the coach for the 45-minute journey to the Singapore airport. You will then fly to Siem Reap.

Upon landing in Siem Reap, transfer to the ticket counter for temple pass process.

Then transfer to local restaurant for lunch.

After lunch, you will transfer to Angkor Thom, the former capital of the great Khmer empire. You will enter through the South Gate, a massive four-faced edifice which is guarded by a line of gods and demons carved from stone.

Inside the city walls, you will come face-to-face with the Bayon, an imposing 12th-century structure commissioned by one the empire’s most revered rulers, King Jayavarman VII.

You will continue on to Baphuon, a sanctuary dedicated to Brahmanism, and Phimeanakas Temple, a place of worship for kings. You will then visit the Terrace of the Elephants, an impressive eight-foot-tall wall used as a ceremonial stage, and the Terrace of the Leper King with its amazingly well-detailed bas reliefs.

In the evening, you will enjoy the serenity of drifting along the moat of the ancient walled city of Angkor in a traditional Khmer gondola. You will board the romantic vessel near the South Gate of Angkor Thom, then drink in the peaceful early-evening atmosphere as the gondola begins to glide. Feel free to sip a glass or two of wine and enjoy a selection of canapés.

If you wish, you can stop and walk to Prasat Chrung temple, where you will be rewarded with magical views at twilight.

Then, you will transfer to the hotel for check-in and enjoy dinner on your own and a relaxing evening at leisure back at the hotel.

DAY 2

After breakfast at the hotel, you will ride in a tuk-tuk to the ruins of Angkor Wat. After entering the ruins from the eastern gate way, you will visit the Historical Gallery, the Hell and Paradise Gallery, and the Churning of the Ocean of Milk Gallery. It will be easy to imagine centuries ago, the surrounding villages, markets and temples coming alive with the dawn of a new day.

Angkor Wat is a glorious example of classical Khmer architecture, which is regarded by many as the quintessential Angkor experience. It features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology.

Continuing on, you will next see the temple of Ta Prohm, which is famous for its forest atmosphere and enormous fig trees. The temple looks much like it did when the first European explorer arrived. Film buffs may recognize the setting from the 2001 movie “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.”

Following lunch at a nearby restaurant, you will visit Satcha, a Cambodian handicrafts center for the works of local artisans.

Back at the hotel, the afternoon will be at your leisure. As night falls, you will enjoy a magical dining experience amid ancient Angkor with rare access to the grounds of a historical temple at night. There, you will be greeted by the sound of Khmer drums. You will walk a torchlit path into the dining venue and enjoy dinner and drinks accompanied by traditional dance and music.

DAY 3

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Then will then transfer to the Siem Reap Airport for the flight to Bangkok. There, you will take a connecting flight to Phuket.

General Information

Electricity:

Rooms are equipped with 220-volt, two-pin US style electrical outlets. We recommend travelling with your own adapter kits should you have electronic devices.

Expected Weather:

Hot and dry. The average midday temperatures can hover in the upper 30s C (85-90 F), especially in inland areas like Siem Reap. It is less breezy at this time of year, the sun can be quite intense, and the air becomes hazier with the rising humidity. The lack of rain still leaves this a good time of year to visit the temples.

What to Bring:

Dress comfortably and casually. Be sure to observe local dress codes.

* Avoid uncovered shoulders, shorts or revealing clothing.

* Full-length trousers or pants and/or skirts covering the knees are required to be worn when visiting Angkor Wat.

Although dinners are not formal, you may want to bring something a bit dressier for that time of day.

Bring a hat or a head covering for sun protection and don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses and mosquito repellent for sunrise and sunset hours. It’s also a good idea to bring along a small packet of tissues or wet wipes. It is also suggested that guests wear flat comfortable walking shoes, not sandals or open-toed shoes or flip flops. Guests must take off their footwear and hats when visiting religious sites.

Currency:

KHR - Cambodian Riel. US Dollars are also widely accepted in Cambodia. Bring dollars in smaller denominations to prevent ending up an abundance of local change that you can’t re-exchange back home.

Luggage:

Light luggage is recommended. The airlines allow for a maximum of one checked suitcase (20 kg or 44 lbs) and one small carry-on. Additional pieces will be in excess and fees will be paid to the airline at the guests’ expense.

You can store excess luggage at the hotel. Be sure that excess bags are tagged properly with your full name and suite number on the ship. Pack accordingly before disembarking as excess bags will be collected when you disembark the ship and you will be re-united with your luggage on Day 3.

DAY 1

After you disembark the cruise ship in Phuket, an Akorn representative will meet you at the gangway for the transfer to the airport and flight to Chiang Mai. Once you land, you will check into the Anantara Chiang Mai Resort for dinner and to spend the evening.

Nestled on the peaceful Ping River, this contemporary resort was built around a 100-year-old heritage house that once belonged to the British Consulate. The rooms and suites are decorated in a simple yet sophisticated style with elements of Thai design. DAY 2

Following breakfast at the resort and check out, you will set off on a three-hour overland journey through the northern Thai countryside to Chiang Rai. On the way there, you will stop briefly at the Mae Kachan Hot Springs to soak your feet in the natural hot water pools.

Continuing on towards Chiang Rai, you will enjoy lunch at a restaurant before boarding a boat for a scenic ride. In time, you will reach a viewpoint overlooking the Mekong River and see the Golden Triangle – a picturesque place where three countries – Thailand, Laos and Myanmar – meet.

You will then visit the Hall of Opium, a museum that offers a fascinating insight into the history of the opium trade that affected the many tribal villagers in this area. You will learn about the impacts of the poppy plant that produces opium, as well as the steps made to help the Golden Triangle community.

Afterwards, you will travel to the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, where you will spend the evening. Perched on a ridge overlooking rolling hills, the resort is a pleasant mountain hideaway with captivating views of the jungle-covered landscape.

DAY 1

Depart the ship in Sydney in the afternoon allowing you time to take part in the ships Shore Excursion program throughout the day. This evening you will check into your Four Seasons hotel room before enjoying dinner in house to allow time to get to know each other and your local expert host that will spend the next week showcasing the best Australia has to offer.

DAY 2

This morning following breakfast, transfer to Sydney airport and begin your adventure to the red center and the world-famous Uluru.

Arriving at the Uluru airport, transfer to your resort for some free time to enjoy the facilities followed by lunch.

While settling into your luxurious tented pavilion at Longitude 131, you will be treated to magnificent views as the light shifts and changes over Uluru. Each luxury tent is elevated atop rust-red dunes and includes fine organic linens and king-size beds. During your free time, you may wish to observe the sights and sounds of the desert along one of the circular walking tracks or simply relax by the swimming pool with a refreshing beverage.

Later in the afternoon, head to the Field of Light where you will witness the sun set over Uluru followed by the magical light display topped off with dinner under the stars.

Field of Light is Bruce Munro’s internationally acclaimed art phenomenon. As you wander through the installation, it will appear to bloom and sway as darkness descends over Australia’s spiritual heartland. The solar-powered exhibition lights up the outback in a spectacular fashion.

The evening seamlessly segues into an exclusive dining event at Table 131° among the dunes. While listening to the mesmerizing night sounds of the desert, you will feast on four delicious courses matched with the finest Australian wines. After dinner, Longitude’s resident astronomer will regale you with tales of the southerly constellations. (The operation of Table 131° is subject to weather and climatic conditions.)

DAY 3

Another early wakeup is required as you will head out for a guided walk at sunrise through Walpa Gorge and the many heads of Kata Tjuta and discover how eons of weathering and continental upheaval have created today’s landscape.

Returning to your hotel, take some time for breakfast and to relax before heading out on an afternoon journey to the base of Uluru to learn about the history of the ancestral Mala people on the Mala Walk.

At dusk, enter Kantju Gorge illuminated in the light of the setting sun for evening drinks and canapés.

Dinner will be back at base camp enjoying the view from the Dune Top.

DAY 4

Following breakfast, check out and drive to the airport for your flight to the tropical city of Cairns.

On arrival to Cairns you will be taken to a waterfront restaurant for a late lunch while your bags are taken to the hotel and placed in your rooms.

Following lunch, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure to enjoy the resort and the beautiful esplanade with perhaps the thought of heading into town for a taste of the Cairns nightlife or night market activity. Tonight you will be staying at the Crystalbrook Riley resort. Dinner is on your own this evening.

DAY 6

Following breakfast head north to visit Mossman Gorge for an insight into the indigenous lands and culture through a guided ranger walk through the tropical rainforest.

Following your interactive visit and driving down the coast back towards Cairns stop into Hartley’s for lunch and the opportunity to come up close and personal to Australia’s wildlife including the Salt Water Crocodile, the Koala, snakes and many other native species.

With a full mind of culture and nature it is time to return to Cairns for an evening of leisure. Dinner is on your own this evening, take it easy with dinner in the hotel at your own pace or perhaps head into town to experience one of the many fantastic restaurants.

DAY 7

Following breakfast and after checking out of your hotel, depart for a visit up into the rainforest on the world famous Skyrail.

Enjoying the 1 ½ hour cable car ride stop at the 2 locations along the way to walk the boardwalks through this ancient landscape before having time in the village of Karanda to meander the stores before heading back to Cairns to rejoin your awaiting ship.

It is very hot in the red center and in tropical Cairns so we recommended to bring sun safe clothing and comfortable shoes.

Your day begins with a breathtaking drive through the otherworldly expanses of the Atacama, passing the majestic Licancabur Volcano and desert flora like the tamarugo and chañar trees. Arrive in Toconao, a charming village famed for its Liparita stone architecture, before venturing deep into Salar de Atacama—Chile’s largest salt flat. Within the Los Flamencos National Reserve, explore Chaxa Lagoon, where elegant pink flamingos and countless other birds create a kaleidoscope of life against a backdrop of salt and silence.

In the afternoon, head to the mesmerizing Cejar and Piedra Lagoons, where you’ll experience the magic of floating effortlessly in high-salinity turquoise waters surrounded by volcanoes and salt formations that shimmer in the desert sun. Don’t forget your swimsuit, this is the closest you’ll come to flying!

After a refreshing return to your hotel and dinner, prepare for a truly cosmic experience. Later this evening, we’ll head out into the desert darkness for an unforgettable stargazing tour. This morning, delve into the history of the Atacama. Begin at Pukará de Quitor, a hilltop fortress built in the 12th century by the Atacameño people, where tales of ancient battles and resilience echo through the stones. Then, travel further back in time to the archaeological village of Tulor—a 3,000-year-old desert settlement whose circular adobe dwellings have been astonishingly preserved by the sands.

Return to San Pedro for lunch, then set out again for the mythical Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). Pause along the way to photograph the surreal Salt Mountain Range, carved by millennia of geological upheaval. Marvel at the curious rock formations known as “Las Tres Marías”, before ending the day at the stunning Kari Viewpoint. As the sun dips below the horizon, sip a chilled cocktail of cheese and Chilean wine and watch the desert sky ignite with color—a magical finale to an extraordinary day.

After lunch in Pozo Almonte, step into the ghostly echoes of Chile’s nitrate boom in the abandoned towns of Humberstone and Santa Laura.
