General Information
Electricity:
Egypt’s electrical system operates on 220/230 volts (A/C 50 cycles). Most hotels provide hair dryers and plug adapters in the rooms. If you plan to bring personal electrical appliances, carry an international converter kit with a set of adapter plugs.
Note: Outlets in Egypt require a two-pronged adapter plug with round pins.
Expected Weather: During your journey, you can expect warm to hot conditions typical of Egypt in May. In Cairo, daytime temperatures generally range from 36°C to 39°C (97°F to 102°F), while nighttime temperatures drop to around 20°C to 22°C (68°F to 72°F), offering some relief from the heat.
In Luxor, the climate is even warmer, with daytime highs averaging 35°C to 38°C (95°F to 100°F) and nighttime temperatures hovering between 21°C and 23°C (70°F to 73°F). The air is dry, and the sun is intense, so adequate sun protection and hydration are essential throughout your stay.
What to Bring: it is essential to pack light, breathable clothing such as cotton or linen to stay comfortable in the heat. Loose-fitting long sleeves and pants are recommended for sun protection and modesty when visiting religious sites. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen will help shield you from the intense sun, while good walking shoes are a must for exploring archaeological sites. Evenings can be cooler, so a light jacket or shawl is advisable. Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, along with a small daypack for excursions.
Currency: The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), but USD and major credit cards are widely accepted.
Luggage: each guest is allowed to carry one checked bag weighing up to 23 kilograms and one carry-on bag weighing up to 9 kilograms. Please ensure your luggage complies with these limits to avoid additional fees or complications during your journey.
Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)
1.Guests must obtain a doctor’s certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry this equipment with them on their flights.
2.The certificate should have attached a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications, especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type).
3.These documents must be sent to the Land Program Team via the Reservations Team at least one month prior to travel so that our local operator can begin the notification process with the airline(s).
4.Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which the cruise line nor our local ground operator can be responsible for.
Please note: Some airlines may impose restrictions or specific requirements when transporting wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or other assistive devices. We recommend checking directly with your airline or the Cruise Line prior to departure to ensure compliance with their policies.
Documents and Visa Requirements:
Please be advised that passports must be always kept with guests during travel.
US, Canadian and EU citizens will receive a visa upon arrival at the Cairo airport. Guests are responsible for confirming up-to-date vaccination or visa requirements directly with their local embassy or health authority.
Muscat, Oman: Citizens of many countries can get a visa on arrival, while others may need to apply for an e-visa in advance. Required documents typically include a passport valid for at least six months. For specific visa types, such as those for cruise ship passengers or transit, there may be additional requirements or special procedures.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTATION NOTICE:
To ensure successful flight arrangements for this program, the name on your cruise booking, passport, and any required visas must match exactly. This includes first, middle, and last names, with identical spelling across all documents. Discrepancies may result in denial of boarding by the airline.
Cruise line-generated manifests must align precisely with your official travel documents.
Failure to present the correct documentation or inconsistencies in guests names may lead to denied travel or the need to re-purchase tickets at your own expense. Guests will be responsible for any additional costs incurred due to these discrepancies.
