Journey through the imperial heart of China on a richly curated overland adventure connecting Xi’an, Beijing and Shanghai. From the astonishing ranks of the Terracotta Warriors to the ceremonial grandeur of the Forbidden City and the monumental sweep of the Great Wall at Juyongguan Pass, each day reveals a defining chapter of China’s dynastic legacy. Regional cuisine, including a Tang Dynasty dinner show and Beijing’s celebrated roast duck, deepens the experience before you return seamlessly to your ship in Shanghai.
Note: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour. This program is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those who utilize a wheelchair or scooter.
DAY 1
Depart the pier and transfer to Hong Kong International Airport for your flight to Xi’an, one of China’s great ancient capitals. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and check in.
The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing time to settle in and relax after your travels. Dinner this evening is on your own.
Overnight: Wyndham Grand Xian South Hotel or similar
DAY 2
Following breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a picturesque drive to the Lintong District to visit the renowned Terracotta Warriors Museum. First excavated in 1974, the 7,000 life-size terracotta warriors and horses are acclaimed as the “eighth wonder of the world.” Arranged in battle order, rank by rank, some warriors appear mounted on horse-drawn chariots while others stand in infantry groups armed with spears, swords and crossbows. Each figure was individually created with distinctive characteristics, making this one of the most extraordinary archaeological discoveries in the world.
After your visit, enjoy a Chinese-style lunch at a local restaurant.
This afternoon, continue to the Bronze Chariots and Horses Museum, home to two remarkable bronze chariots and horses discovered in 1980 near the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Dating to the Qin Dynasty, these life-size models are among the largest, oldest and best-preserved bronze artifacts of their kind ever found. Each chariot consists of more than 3,000 components, revealing extraordinary craftsmanship and advanced metallurgical skill. Created to accompany the emperor in the afterlife, the chariots reflect both ancient Chinese beliefs and the remarkable artistry of Qin artisans.
After this enriching day of discovery, return to your hotel for time at leisure. This evening, enjoy dinner accompanied by the Tang Dynasty Show.
Overnight: Wyndham Grand Xian South Hotel or similar
DAY 3 – March 31, 2027
After an early breakfast at your hotel, transfer to Xi’an Airport for your flight to Beijing. Upon arrival, proceed to a local restaurant for a Chinese-style lunch before continuing to the Forbidden City.
Once home to emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Forbidden City encompasses a 250-acre complex of pavilions, halls, courtyards and gates, preserving some of the most important treasures of China’s imperial past. As you explore this monumental palace complex, you encounter a world shaped by ceremony, artistry and centuries of dynastic power.
Late in the afternoon, check in at your hotel. This evening, savor Beijing’s famous roast duck dinner.
Please note: There is a walk of approximately 15 to 25 minutes, depending on walking speed, from the coach drop-off area to the Forbidden City.
Overnight: China World Hotel or similar
DAY 4
After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and travel by coach to the Great Wall at Juyongguan Pass. Among the world’s most iconic architectural achievements, the Great Wall is a series of fortifications first constructed more than 2,000 years ago in an effort to defend against northern nomads.
At Juyongguan Pass, you may walk along the wall and admire the surrounding mountain views. Climbing is optional, and guests should assess their comfort and stamina before participating.
After your visit, continue to a local restaurant for a Chinese-style lunch. There is also an opportunity to shop for souvenirs after lunch before transferring to Beijing Airport for your flight to Shanghai. Dinner is served on board. Upon arrival in Shanghai, collect your luggage and transfer to the pier to rejoin the ship.
Please note: Climbing the Great Wall is optional. You will need to climb a series of steps to access it.

Expected Weather:
In late March and early April, weather conditions can vary between Hong Kong, Xi’an, Beijing and Shanghai, so guests should be prepared for changing temperatures, occasional cool mornings and evenings, particularly in northern China, and are encouraged to bring layered clothing and comfortable walking shoes.
What to Bring:
Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, layered clothing and a camera are recommended.
Please note: Power banks will be strictly checked at the airports and may be confiscated if they appear dubious.
Currency:
The Chinese Yuan, denoted by CNY, is the official currency in China. U.S. Dollars, Euros and British Pounds may be accepted in hotels, friendship stores, by some vendors at scenic spots, for optional tours and for gratuities to hotel porters, tour guides, drivers or others you may wish to tip. Foreign currencies generally cannot be used in department stores, small convenience stores, local restaurants or with some street vendors.
Luggage:
Guests are permitted to bring, free of charge, one carry-on bag and one piece of checked luggage, although for this short program we recommend bringing carry-on luggage only, keeping in mind restrictions for liquids, gels and other items not suitable for carry-on luggage.
Carry-on luggage should not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm / 22 x 16 x 8 in in size and 5 kg / 11 lbs. in weight. Checked luggage should not exceed 100 x 60 x 40 cm / 39 x 24 x 16 in in size and 20 kg / 44 lbs. in weight. These dimensions include wheels, handles and side pockets.
Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)
1. Guests must obtain a doctor’s certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry this equipment with them on their flights.
2. The certificate should have attached a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications, especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type).
3. These documents must be sent to the Land Program Team via the Reservations Team at least one month prior to travel so that our local operator can begin the notification process with the airline(s).
4. Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which the cruise line nor our local ground operator can be responsible for.
Please note: Some airlines may impose restrictions or specific requirements when transporting wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or other assistive devices. We recommend checking directly with your airline or the Cruise Line prior to departure to ensure compliance with their policies.
Guests are required to bring with them any details from the manufacturer regarding CPAP specifications. While most modern CPAP machines are FAA-approved for in-flight use, having a copy of the manufacturer’s FAA-approval status may help quickly clear any confusion that may arise.
Failure to provide the above details in a timely manner may result in denial of this equipment at the airport, for which Oceania Cruises nor the local ground operator will be responsible.
Some hotels do not provide distilled water. While this can certainly be requested, it cannot be guaranteed. If received in a timely manner, at least 95 days before sailing, requests will be sent on the final manifest that the ground operators and hotels receive. Guests are strongly encouraged to pack their own supply, especially on programs that travel to more remote locations, to avoid not having it. Please keep in mind the rule for liquids in carry-on bags. Many hotels will charge for distilled water. If there is a fee, this will be added to your hotel incidental account to be paid at check-out. Fees will vary from hotel to hotel.
Documents & Visa Requirements:
A passport that is valid at least six months beyond your travel dates is required for this program. Guests are responsible for verifying current visa and entry requirements for China with their local embassy or consulate prior to travel, as requirements vary by nationality and are subject to change at any time. Visa fees, if applicable, are not included in the cost of this program, and it is each guest’s responsibility to ensure that all travel documentation is complete and valid before departure.
China currently offers a 240-hour visa-free transit policy for eligible nationals entering through designated ports and transiting onward to a third country or region. However, eligibility, permitted routing, entry ports, required documentation and policy conditions may change without notice; therefore, guests should independently confirm their eligibility with the appropriate Chinese embassy, consulate or official government authority prior to travel.
Guests who choose to travel under the 240-hour visa-free transit policy may be required to present supporting documentation upon arrival, including a valid passport, proof of onward travel to a third country or region within the permitted transit period, confirmed hotel arrangements, flight documentation and cruise itinerary details. Guests who are not eligible for visa-free transit, who are uncertain of their eligibility, or who prefer to avoid the risk of being denied entry are encouraged to obtain the appropriate Chinese visa in advance of travel.
Should the itinerary, flight routing, entry requirements or Chinese visa policy change, or should visa-free transit not be granted by immigration authorities for any reason, guests will be responsible for any resulting expenses, and the land program will remain subject to the applicable cancellation terms.
Vaccination & Health Regulations:
Guests are responsible for confirming up-to-date vaccination requirements directly with their local embassy or health authority. Please note that visa and vaccination costs are not included in the price of this program.
Important Documentation Notice:
To ensure successful flight arrangements for this program, the name on your cruise booking, passport, and any required visas must match exactly. This includes first, middle, and last names, with identical spelling across all documents. Discrepancies may result in denial of boarding by the airline. Cruise line-generated manifests must align precisely with your official travel documents. Failure to present the correct documentation or inconsistencies in guests’ names may lead to denied travel or the need to re-purchase tickets at your own expense. Guests will be responsible for any additional costs incurred due to these discrepancies.
