Stroll down Bar’s palm-lined waterfront promenade past King?Nikola’s Palace, now a charming regional museum showcasing scenic gardens, then venture to the Old Town of Stari Bar perched on the hillside. The town manifests centuries of history in Byzantine fortifications, a remarkable Ottoman aqueduct and a clocktower that stands as a symbol of the city. Nearby is Bar’s most famous resident, a 2,000-year-old olive tree believed to be the oldest in Europe. Just outside of Bar, spanning the border of Montenegro and Albania, Lake Skadar offers boating and kayaking expeditions as well as tastings at local wineries. A rigorous hike up Mount Rumija rewards with sweeping panoramas.
