Antofagasta, Chile

Blessed with impossibly clear skies, with no more than 20 cloudy days a year, this sunny city in northern Chile is home to some of the largest telescopes in the world. Nearby El Tatio boasts the world's highest geysers, Salar de Atacama is a vast salt lake and home to a variety of flamingos, and La Portada is gorgeous place where fascinating rock formations and majestic scenery collide.
