India’s rail network is the second largest system in the world, carrying millions daily. Encounter what could become a memorable experience taking the super-fast Gatimaan Express departing Delhi at 8:10 and arriving into Agra at 9:50 a.m.

Agra’s story or glory began with the arrival of the Mughals, who made it a great centre of learning, art, commerce and culture. This ‘city of the past’ has impressive World Heritage sites and traditional artisan workshops.

Upon arrival, transfer to the Jaypee Palace to freshen up and then drive a short distance to visit the Taj Mahal- the ivory gate which all dreams pass. A lacy white grandeur, perhaps the most perfect architectural monument accomplished. Amazingly graceful from any angle, it is the close up detail which is really astounding.

Return to Jaypee Palace for lunch and later see World Heritage Agra Fort, credited to Emperor Akbar, India’s great visionary. Astonishing palaces, mosques, and audience halls contained within its massive walls of red sandstone are embellished by an artistic fusion of Hindu and Islamic traditions.

Agra offers some excellent shopping opportunities such as Kohinoor, jewelers to the mughal court, featured in National Geographic. Old emerald necklaces, enamel jewelry and embroidery form part of their private collection. The Marble Inlay factories steeped in this decorative art culture are also a specialty of Agra.

Later, transfer back to the railway station for the return Gatimaan Express which departs Agra at 5:50 p.m., arriving back into the capital at 7:30 p.m.

Dinner and overnight at The Lalit.

After breakfast, check out and drive to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway with vistas of India’s vast rural farming countryside.

Agra, the city of Taj Mahal was one of the grand cities of South Asia. With the arrival of the Mughals in 1526 led by Babur, Agra entered a completely new era during the reign of emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. •Visit the Agra Fort, a World Heritage Site credited to Emperor Akbar, India’s great visionary. His sons and theirs added to this imposing structure situated by the banks of the Yamuna River. The astonishing palaces, mosques and audience halls contained within its massive walls of red sandstone became once more a monumental mission of the Mughal Empire embellished by the artistic fusion of Islamic and Hindu tradition.

Day 5 – May 2, 2025

After breakfast, checkout and explore the highlights of Goa.

Lush and lovely Goa was created as a place for relaxation. One can explore the beaches and tiny villages and the colorful markets and spice farms. In quiet and complete contrast to other ports and places on the Indian sub-continent, Goa offers a quaint reflection of its colonial Portuguese past well assimilated with its democratic Indian present.

You will drive to visit `Old Goa’ and the Basilica of Bom Jesus famous throughout the Catholic world. Amongst other religious edifices still standing in Old Goa is the `Se Cathedral”, the largest church in Asia, but also the site of the “Golden Bell” which announced the death – knell of burning heretics during the inquisition.

Goa’s capital, Panaji (formerly Panjim) is spread along the south bank of the wide Mandovi River, in a charming sprawl of red-roofed houses, sunny squares and gardens of bougainvillea and frangipani. The newly built Nehru Bridge spans the river giving easy access to the beaches along the ocean shore to the north.

Visit Panjim town which has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere especially along the leafy avenues of its old section, retaining its Portuguese style winding streets and old houses with red tiled roofs and overhanging balconies. The streets have taverns offering Goan cuisine and “Feni” (cashew nut liquor) and bakeries serving `Bebinca’, the delicious local cake. Many residents still speak Portuguese.

Overlooking `Largo de Igreja’ or Church Square is the Church of Immaculate Conception with its Baroque façade, probably the town’s most important landmark. In 1541 Portuguese sailors began visiting this church to offer thanksgiving prayers after their long and treacherous voyage from Lisbon.

Later, explore the market before departing for the home of Otto de Oliveira Fernandes to meet the family over light refreshments.

After your visit, transfer to the pier and re-board your ship.

An early morning continental breakfast will be served at the hotel prior to transferring to the airport.

At the Mumbai Airport, receive boarding passes and proceed through security, immigration and customs before boarding a flight to Kathmandu. Refreshments will be served aloft.

Home to eight of the world’s 10 tallest peaks, the tiny kingdom of Nepal is ringed by the Himalayas. It is a land of contrasts, harboring a wealth of Buddhist and Hindu art and architecture. Nepal’s colorful capital city Kathmandu reflects 2,000 years of peaceful co-existence and exudes a unique blend of Hinduism and Buddhism, which is distinctly Nepalese in character.

Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you will be helped with visa issuance and baggage collection.

NOTE: Please have on hand 1 passport sized photo for the Nepal Visa. Your tour manager will collect this from you in flight. This visa is included in the cost of the program.

You will then have a short transfer to the Dwarika’s Hotel. Described as a “living, breathing museum, displaying Nepal’s best craftsmanship from the 13th century,” the hotel rooms and public areas reflect medieval architectural traditions. Every brick is handmade, every piece of wood original and centuries old.

Nepal has eight World Heritage sites and has won two Heritage Awards, one for the city of Bhaktapur and the other for the Dwarika’s Hotel, where you will spend the next two nights.

Check-in and lunch on your own.

Later in the day, visit the great Stupa at Bodhnath, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Constructed in the 14th century, the stupa is built on an octagonal base, inset with prayer wheels. Bodhnath is also a center of the Tibetan community in Nepal, where you will visit a monastery and interact with a senior monk.

You will then visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pashupatinath, one of the holiest Hindu temples and a major pilgrimage site dedicated to the god Shiva. Situated within a natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple features a pagoda style, a gilded roof and a richly carved silver door.

After watching the Aarti prayer offering ceremony at the temple, you will return to the hotel to spend the evening. Dinner is on your own.

Day 3 – April 30, 2025

Early in the morning, you will transfer to the airport for a flight-seeing excursion (weather permitting), soaring over glacier-clad, cloud-shrouded peaks and other landscapes around Mount Everest. Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for breakfast.

Following breakfast, you will have some time at leisure and around noon you will drive to the Traditional Inn in Patan for lunch. After lunch you will visit Patan, one of three royal cities in the valley. Commissioned by India’s great emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century, this World Heritage Site within four stupas is known as the City of Fine Arts.

The temples around the main square are impressive as is the Patan Museum, which is housed within a picturesque palace setting. In an international campaign by UNESCO for safeguarding monuments in Kathmandu Valley, the Austrian government joined hands with Nepal to restore and preserve Patan.

Newari architectural style blossomed in the form of temples, palaces, residences and squares between the 12th and 18th centuries, representing a timelessness in Nepalese architecture and its definitive characteristics, often guided by religious and socio-cultural norms.

You will enjoy a cup of tea in a 150-year-old restored Newari home. Its ground level is for daily activities and storage, while the floors above contain living spaces and bedrooms. The top floor serves as the family shrine and cooking and dining area.

Next, you will see Patan’s Living Goddess, who typically acknowledges greetings of devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. Known as Kumaris, Nepal’s living goddesses live in seclusion and rarely speak in public.

After a private audience with the goddess, it’s on to the Singing Bowl workshops. According to the oral traditions, singing bowls were brought to Nepal from India in the 8th century along with Buddha’s teachings. The Nepalese were expert bronze makers which allowed them to perfect these bowls which are commonly used as a tool for meditation. The beautiful rich tones the bowls produce are thought to help achieve a state of deep relaxation.

There’s time for individual exploration before you depart for Thamel - Kathmandu’s hip street. Pulsating Thamel has become a world address for international trekkers, mountaineers and curio shoppers looking for a bargain. Being in the heart of Kathmandu, this bazaar feels like the Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, California. It's full of small hotels and numerous restaurants and lodges catering to a vast category of tourists.

Later, proceed to Sam’s One Tree Café a local favorite for drinks and dinner.

Return to the Dwarika’s hotel for the overnight.

Day 4 – May 1, 2025

After breakfast, you will drive to the World Heritage city of Bhadgaon, also known as Bhaktapur. Founded in the 9th century, Bhaktapur, also known as the City of Devotees, is revered for its medieval art and architecture. More Details

OVERLAND: HIMALAYAN KINGDOM OF NEPAL (CMB-MUM)

Brief Program Description:

While based in Nepal’s royal capital of Kathmandu, you will thoroughly explore one breathtaking attraction after another and come away with a deeper understanding of Nepalese life. Many of the landmarks are UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Hindu temple Pashupatinath on the sacred Bagmati River, the dozens of temples within Durbar Square and Bhadgaon, the former capital of Nepal, which is revered for its medieval architecture. You will also enjoy a rare audience with a kumari living goddess and fly high over the snow-capped Himalayas.

DAY 1

After disembarking the cruise ship in Colombo and completing immigration and customs formalities, you will transfer to the airport for the Sri Lankan flight to Delhi. Lunch will be arranged at the Colombo airport.

Upon landing in Delhi, completing immigration and customs formalities and collecting your baggage, you will transfer to J.W Marriott New Delhi Aerocity to spend the evening.

Overnight at J.W Marriott New Delhi Aerocity or similar.

DAY 2

After checking out of the hotel, you will transfer to the airport for the IndiGo Airlines flight to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Upon landing, you will be assisted with visa issuance and baggage collection.

You will then transfer to The Dwarika’s Hotel. Described as a “living, breathing museum, displaying Nepal’s best craftsmanship from the 13th century,” the hotel reflects medieval architectural traditions. Every brick is handmade, every piece of wood original and centuries old.

Following lunch and leisure time at the hotel, you will transfer to the nearby Boudhnath Stupa, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Constructed in the 14th century, the stupa is built on an octagonal base and inset with prayer wheels. Boudhnath is also a center of the Tibetan community in Nepal, where you will visit a monastery.

Before returning to the hotel for the evening, you will enjoy a cup of coffee or a cocktail at one of the cafés in Boudhnath.

Overnight at The Dwarika’s Hotel or similar.

DAY 3

Early in the morning, you will transfer to the airport for a flightseeing excursion, soaring over glacier-clad, cloud-shrouded peaks and other Himalayan landscapes around Mount Everest. Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for breakfast.

Following breakfast, you will visit Patan, one of three royal cities in the valley. Commissioned by India’s great emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century, this UNESCO World Heritage site within four stupas is known as the City of Fine Arts.

The temples around the main square are impressive as is the Patan Museum, which is housed within a picturesque palace setting. In an international campaign by UNESCO for safeguarding monuments in Kathmandu Valley, the Austrian government joined hands with Nepal to restore and preserve Patan.

You will see Patan’s Living Goddess, who typically acknowledges greetings of devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. Known as kumaris, living goddesses live in seclusion and rarely speak in public.

After a private audience with the Goddess, you will enjoy lunch at The Lawn.

You will then return to the hotel for some free time.

In the evening, you visit Pashupatinath temple, a nearby UNESCO World Heritage site, and witness the Aarti ceremony, a daily prayer ritual. Pashupatinath is one of the holiest Hindu temples and a major pilgrimage place dedicated to the god Shiva. Situated amidst a natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple built in pagoda style has a gilded roof and richly carved silver doors. Visitors may view it from the east bank as only Hindus are permitted to enter.

Dinner will be served at The Dwarika’s restaurant Krishnarpan, which specializes in fine Newari cuisine. The interiors and experience symbolize traditional banquets favored by Nepali kings and royalty in honor of visiting dignitaries.

You will spend the evening at The Dwarika’s Hotel.

Overnight at The Dwarika’s Hotel or similar.

DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bhadgaon, also known as Bhaktapur or the City of Devotees. Founded in the 9th century, Bhaktapur is revered for its medieval art and architecture.

As you meander around Durbar Square, you will see the 55 Window Palace and Nyatapola temple, considered to be the finest example of Pagoda-style architecture.

Newari-style architecture blossomed in the form of temples, palaces, residences and squares between the 12th and 18th centuries, representing a timelessness in Nepalese architecture and its definitive characteristics, often guided by religious and socio-cultural norms.

Visit 150-year-old restored Newari home. Its ground level is for daily activities and storage, while the floors above contain living spaces and bedrooms. The top floor serves as the family shrine and cooking and dining area.

Afterwards, you will return to The Dwarika’s Hotel for lunch and leisure time.

Later in the afternoon, you will transfer to Durbar Square, also known as the Hanuman Dhoka Palace Square after the Hindu monkey god Hanuman, who acts as a protector via a huge stone impression next to the main entrance. Kathmandu Valley has three Durbar Squares, all UNESCO World Heritage sites.

This ancient seat of Nepalese royalty displays spectacular architecture, reflecting the skill of the Newari artists over several centuries. There is a great variety of temples dedicated to different Hindu gods and goddesses, mainly constructed between the 15th and 18th centuries.

Time has been allotted for individual exploration at Asan Bazar, a great local shopping scene. You will then board a rickshaw and ride through the narrow lanes of the old city to Thamel, a hip hub for international trekkers, mountaineers and shoppers. Cocktails and dinner will be served at the famed One Tree Sam’s Bar.

You will then return to the hotel for the evening.

Overnight at The Dwarika’s Hotel or similar.

DAY 5

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to the airport for the Indigo flight to Mumbai.

Upon landing in Mumbai, completing immigration, baggage collection and customs, you will transfer to the pier and re-board the cruise ship.
